NCSL BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING-JANUARY 22, 2003

The meeting was called to order at 7:30PM.

Roll call showed a quorum.  Clubs not present: Baltimore Bays, Burtonsville, Eastern Panhandle, Fort Washington, Lee-Mt. Vernon, and Washington Soccer Club.

Gloria Gallagher-Va. Registrar- January 23rd is the last day for teams interested in applying for a provisional roster for league play.  What is the best way to get the registration materials to club managers?  We had a mandatory meeting on registration, the manual is on the VYSA web-site, but registrars are still having people missing deadlines.  There are dates when rosters have to be in for state cup, tournaments, etc.  Club reps need to have a meeting with their teams to get the word out that these dates are strictly enforced.

This is a quality of life issue for our registrars.  Please get rosters in on time.

John Ellis-Consultant on Player Development-  This is an important time in soccer education, because it is a time when you can get coaches to go to clinics.  The VYSA workshops this weekend are a wonderful opportunity.  Changes in licenses mean that the E course should be mandatory for coaches of players from age 9 to 15.  D Course is for coaches of 16 years of age and above.  FPYC is holding the E course the week of February 28 and McLean the week of March 15 and 16.

Jeff Skigen-President’s Report- The VYSA workshop is this weekend at Capital City Hyatt.  There are a variety of seminars for administrators as well as coaches.

The premier concept will not happen in the spring.  The new target is fall of 2003.  One of  the reasons is the lack of manpower.  There is a variety of positions and help that we need.  Please let Jeff know if you or someone you know is interested.  E-mail  or call Jeff or Roger Ney.  We will try to move on implementation in the fall.

There is a position open on the board of VYSA of Boys North Travel.  This person would handle community issues, act as a conduit for communication, and attend meeting once a month in Richmond.  The term expires in June 2003 so an interim person is needed until then.  It should be someone with an understanding of travel and the issues involved, not someone brand new.  If interested, please contact Jeff at jskigen@aol.com.

Last year we did college seminars for players that were very successful.  We would like to repeat them this year if there is interest.  Please check with your U15 and U16 teams with the tentative dates of February 12,19 or 26 and then get back to Jeff in a week with the number of people who have expressed interest.  Do not do it by date, they will take the number to give an idea of  the size of the facility needed, and then set the date.

Motion:  To accept Virginia Soccer Association for NCSL membership.

Motion made by Herndon.

Motion defeated.

Meeting is adjourned.
